I wonder if doing this as part of a yoga practice counts as strength training. According to this NYT article, older women who did an hour or two of strength training exercises once a week had improved cognitive function a year later. The study, done in Canada, defined strength training as exercise using dumbbells and weight machines, as opposed to stretching and toning.
